Oklevueha’s Sacred Medicines

The Sacred Medicines of
Oklevueha Native American Church

Honoring the Earth’s Gifts with Reverence and Intention

At Oklevueha Native American Church (ONAC), we walk the sacred path with the guidance of ancient medicines—gifts from the Earth that open us to healing, vision, and deep spiritual connection. These plant and earth-based sacraments are not taken lightly; they are honored as living spirits, each carrying their own intelligence, purpose, and power. Our way is not one of escapism or recreation, but of prayer, discipline, and profound respect.

The Sacred Medicines We Honor

Peyote (Lophophora williamsii)

One of the most sacred sacraments in our tradition, Peyote has been used for generations by Indigenous peoples of the Americas in ceremony. Peyote is a teacher—a healer that helps purify the spirit, align the mind, and open the heart to the Creator. At ONAC, Peyote is used only in ceremonial context and with deep spiritual intention.

Psilocybin Mushrooms

These sacred fungi, known by many names—Teonanácatl among the Aztecs, meaning “flesh of the gods”—have long been recognized for their ability to dissolve ego boundaries and facilitate deep healing and communion with the Spirit. When approached in reverence and with proper guidance, psilocybin mushrooms can reveal profound truths and support emotional and spiritual transformation.

Ayahuasca

Originating from the Amazon, Ayahuasca is a potent medicine made from the Banisteriopsis caapi vine and companion plants. Known as “the Vine of the Soul,” this sacrament opens visions, brings shadow to light, and connects the drinker with ancestral and universal wisdom. Ayahuasca is never consumed casually; it is engaged with through diet, prayer, and ceremony, led by experienced and consecrated medicine people.

Cannabis

Often misunderstood in modern culture, Cannabis is a sacred medicine in its own right. Known in some traditions as “Grandmother Cannabis,” she is both gentle and powerful—a plant that amplifies intention and reveals inner states. In our practice, Cannabis is never used recreationally or without purpose. She is invited into ceremony with respect, used to support prayer, meditation, and healing.

Other Plant Teachers

ONAC recognizes that the Earth holds many sacred medicines, including San Pedro cactus, hapé, mapacho, sacred tobacco, cacao, and more. Each of these is respected in accordance with its lineage, cultural roots, and spiritual purpose. We do not take these medicines lightly or outside the guidance of ceremony, prayer, and community.

Reverence, Not Recreation

The line between medicine and misuse lies in intention. At ONAC, sacred medicines are never taken for entertainment, escape, or casual use. To do so is to dishonor the spirit of the plant and the ancestors who passed down these traditions. Every ceremony is grounded in prayer, preparation, and integration, ensuring that the medicine is used in a sacred, safe, and supportive context.

We believe that when approached with humility and responsibility, these medicines become allies in awakening, healing, and walking in right relation—with ourselves, with others, and with the Earth.
