David Morrison Testimonial

February, 2001

To Whom it may Concern;

I would like to tell you about how I came to know James Mooney and the blessings he has brought into my life. First, my name is David Morrison. I and my wife Eloise live in Laguna Hills, California. We have been married for 36 years and have 5 children, three boys and two girls. We belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and I have served in many positions in the Church including 4 Bishoprics, High Counselor, Stake Clerk and various teaching assignments. I am an electronics engineer by training and owner and CEO of Western Telematic, a company that designs and manufactures data communication equipment.

We were introduced to James Mooney by Roger and Caroline Clawson who are members of our Ward. We were having a conversation concerning our son Daren who was addicted to heroin. We had exhausted every means by which to help him overcome this habit. Daren has had a substance abuse problem since he was 13 years old, and was then 29. We had tried numerous programs in the past 16 years, none of which seemed to help him.

Daren had been in various drug treatment programs, had seen scores of doctors, psychologists and the like. He had been living away from home the last few years in Hawaii and sunk down just as far as a person could go. One of his friends in Hawaii called to tell us that Daren would be dead in a few days if we didn’t do something very soon. This was the topic of conversation with the Clawsons when they mentioned they knew a man in Utah, a Native American Medicine Man, who has had success treating people addicted to heroin.

We did not know what else to do, so we prayed about this and felt good about contacting James Mooney. The next day we had Daren on an airplane bound for Utah and our journey with the Mooneys had begun. Over the next few weeks our son changed from an addicted young man with no hope of a future to a loving and spiritual man with his whole life ahead of him. We were invited to attend of Br. Mooney’s ceremonies because it would help Daren face some issues he had with his parents.

We went to Utah and met James and his wife Linda for the first time. They talked to us about Daren and told us what a wonderful son we had. They had nothing but love and praise for him. James explained about the ceremony and how everything was done according to gospel principles and that Daren needed to become closer to Christ in order to bring change into his life. The ceremony was one of the most spiritual experiences of my life and I came away a changed man. Over the next few months Daren has come to learn more about himself and what he had to do to stay on track. It has not been easy for him, or us, but much progress has been made. At present he is clean from drugs and attending his church meetings and working with his Bishop on his repentance process. He has a job and is preparing to go back to school.

This is truly a miracle which would never have happened without the Mooneys’ unselfish love and the God given talent. My wife and I have had the privilege of attending other ceremonies and as a result have worked out some of our own problems and have become more spiritual and closer as a family. I have a testimony of the Mooneys’ work and know for certain that what he is doing is what our Father in Heaven would want us all to do – to help our fellow man. The scriptures tell us that we will know a good tree when it brings forth good fruits. Indeed, the Mooneys have changed the lives of many bothers and sisters who have had extreme problems in their lives and have brought them closer to Christ.

I consider James Mooney to be a man of honor and a bother who truly believes in Christ.
